I’m going to tell you something really fucking earthshattering: James Holmes didn’t kill people because he’s crazy. He did it because he’s a horrible human being. Why do I say that, you say?
Well, first off, I’m not an ableist sack of shit, so that helps tremendously. Second, PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS ARE WAY MORE LIKELY TO BE VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIMES THAN THE SAME PEOPLE, AND THEY’RE LESS LIKELY TO COMMIT VIOLENT CRIMES THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION, AND WHEN THEY DO COMMIT THEM THEY’RE MORE LIKELY TO HURT THEMSELVES. I say it with all caps and bold and italics because you people JUST DON’T FUCKING GET IT.
Third, the Colorado shooting? That took a metric shitton of planning, and guess what you can’t do when you’re actively crazy? If you guessed “plan”, congratulations! You win the prize of not being an utter moron. It’s actually a select group, and you should be honored. James Holmes made fucking bombs. Speaking from the experience of actually having BEEN crazy (Bipolar, thank you very much, aka the “will snap and slaughter you all at the slightest provocation” brand of crazy. Or so you sane assholes seem to think.), it’s not fucking ideal conditions for bombmaking. You’d have more luck starting a fire at the bottom of the ocean. When you’re actively crazy, all of your energy goes into fucking surviving and trying to eat, sleep, and maybe bathe. You don’t have the wherewithal to fucking plan a mass murder. You just fucking don’t. And before you get all “oh you have a point but you should say it nicely, so you’re bad” on me, fuck you. That’s my people you’re maligning. You’re perpetrating the stigma that is literally killing us. Bipolar has a death by suicide rate of 1 in 6, and that bitch is TREATABLE. But it’s really fucking hard to get treatment when admitting you have a mental illness is like admitting you eat babies. So when you stop killing us, I’ll start being nice.
