Caring for Your Sex Toys: Making Your Toy Last
Those of us who use sex toys know they can come at a price. Some can be difficult to take care of, clean, and make last in the long-term. If you invest in a great toy, you want to take care of it! Below you will find simple instructions that will help your favorite toys last.
1. Clean Your Toy Properly: Hopefully, whatever toy you invested in will come with instructions specific to cleaning it. However, the sad truth is that many do not (or some of us get a little caught up in our purchases and throw out the box it came in). Generally, all toys can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap. Just make sure you never submerge the part of the toy where the batteries are kept, and of course make sure the batteries are out of it before you start cleaning it. Some toys made from silicone or glass can be boiled and completely sterilized. To do so, boil for 3 - 5 minutes and let your toy fully cool before using it again.
If you are having trouble cleaning a toy, there are a lot of cleansing sprays and wipes out on the market designed specifically for this task. These can be very handy to keep with your toy and use quickly after play. Simply enjoy your toy, spray when finished, and wipe off with a cloth. I personally recommend the Advanced Smart Cleaner from Evolved Products which is pretty body friendly for a product of this sort. This particular spray is glycerin free, hypoallergenic, L-Arginine free, paraben free, and petro-chemicals free.
2. Keep Yourself and/or Your Partner(s) Safe: Some toys cannot be sterilized, and so should not be shared. However, with certain toys there is a way around this. If you are using a vibrator or dido, simply put a condom on the toy before play. After, dispose of the condom and use a new one each time. This will save those uninterested in cleaning toys the hassle of doing so, and those with toys that could hold in bacteria the option of using it with others free of worry.
3. Check your matierals and use your toy accordingly: This one is kind of self explanatory. It is really important to check the materials of your sex toy and use it it accordingly. For example if your toy impossible to sterilize, use it with a condom. If it is made out of silicone, do not use it with silicone lubricants (they will bond together and ruin your toy). If you have something with latex in it, don’t use it with an oil based lubricants since oil degrades latex. Double-check to make sure your toy is water proof before you take it into the bath or shower with you. Look into the materials to see if it is safe to use with hot/cold play before doing so. These simple suggestions can make a world of difference in how long your toy lasts. 4. Store Your Toys Properly: The way you store your toys can make a huge difference on their lifetime. It is very important to keep your sex toys in a cool dry place that is free from dust and dirt. If possible, storing the toys individually in small cloth bags is a great idea, especially if your play thing is made of silicone since these toys have been known to bond together. Many toys do come with these bags already, but if yours did not you could also purchase something designed for this sort of storage. Just make sure you remove any batteries before storing them!
